Wife beating deputy sheriff getting off easy – who do I complain to?

11 Mar

I’m a resident of Clay County, Nebraska and a deputy sheriff here recently beat his wife. This resulted in his suspension without pay and a misdemeanor charge. This much is fact. What I’ve also heard, but haven’t proof of, is that the county dispatcher didn’t send help to her when she called 911. Neighbors finally called the state patrol after they kept hearing her screams. This woman is a foreign wife (German) and I know how vulnerable these women can be. I think its shameful this guy is only getting a misdemeanor after beating his wife within an inch of her life. I think there is some ‘old boys’ club that protects each other. Can you suggest what can be done for justice to be served?
I did some investigating – battery in Nebraska is only a misdemeanor. – But dog fighting is a felony – Ironic isn’t it?

sounds like internal affairs needs a call. if there is no satisfaction there, the F.B.I. can be contacted. they can get you in touch with the agencies who oversee law enforcement.

Why, are you his wife – or just after his wife?

You can always get a vigilante group up and take justice into your own hands, although I would not really recommend that.

imagine that….. a cop who beats up on his wife. will wonders ever cease?! what is it about cops and beating up their wives/girlfriends? they are the biggest hypocrites of all, going around enforcing laws while they themselves break the law. it’s always a “do as i say, not as i do” kind of deal with them, isn’t it? anyway, to answer your question, i think you should start a petition around your county and also ask for an inquiry of the 911 tapes to find out exactly what happened when the woman called. all 911 calls are recorded and kept on tape or in a database. you could consider a protest to have the officer fired. also, go on some websites related to this subject and post what happened. you could write/email the police unions about it. finally, you could write an editorial for the newspaper because maybe a lot of other people feel the same way as you. yeah, it sounds like a bunch of BS that this guy gets off so light for what he did. any man who beats up on a woman is really no man at all. enough said.

That really isn’t fair. I support our police force, but when an officer does something wrong, they need to be punished to the full extent of the law like everyone else, and taken off the force to get rid of the (few) cops that are bad…

I don’t know what you can do, since you’re not direct family or involved, and the charges have already been made.

maybe complain to the county prosecuter, other stations, the neighboring county or even the governor if you have to take it that far. Corruption in authority cannot be tolerated, and definately not respected.

In the state of Florida, a battery is only a misd. charge unless a bone is broken or the body will have a deformation due to the battery. It doesn’t matter who you are. It is unfornate that a deputy would violate the law in such an awful way. However, most people I arrest for domestic battery never even get convicted. In fact most cases are null processed (dropped). Others usually only get 6-8 months of probation. Hopefully that sheds some light as to what the court systems do to people who are not “the old boys club” as you put it.

First find out the facts before you go any further, not rumors or “I’ve heard”. It might save you embarrassment and trouble down the road.
