HARLAN — Authorities are continuing to search for a suspected illegal immigrant from Mexico who stole the identity of a California woman and has been working in Shelby County for the past two years.
Elvia Alcaraz remains on the lam as officials attempt to catch up with her.
According to Shelby County Sheriff reports, Alcaraz has allegedly been using the identity of a Morena Valley, Ca. woman in order to work in the United States.
Authorities were alerted to the scam when Elvia Ann Torres of Morena Valley called the sheriff’s office on July 30 reporting that her identity had been stolen, and was being used by a woman employed at Shelby County Cookers in Harlan.
Torres had said she discovered back in 2001 that someone had been using her identity. She had been denied California state benefits when she applied, and was contacted by the IRS and state for payment of back taxes earned at numerous other employments, most recently Shelby County Cookers, reports said.
Torres asked local authorities to investigate.
According to sheriff reports, Alcaraz had been fired soon after the human resources department at Shelby County Cookers learned that she was not who she claimed to be. She had been employed at the company since April, 2007.
A relative of Alcaraz, also working at Shelby County Cookers, told authorities that her sister was in the United States illegally, with a current address of Vail, Iowa.
Crawford County and Denison authorities were dispatched to the Vail residence to interview Alcaraz, but to date have been unable to locate her.
Alcaraz faces up to five years in jail with additional fines totaling $5,000 if convicted of fraudulently using the identity of another person. A warrant has been issued for her arrest. http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=20360091&BRD=901&PAG=461&dept_id=130069&rfi=6

Nothing will be done until the government realizes this is not a victimless crime. She should serve a lifetime sentence. This is what I mean by illegals who commit crimes relocating to other parts of the U.S. which advocates deny of course.

If all immigrants were fingerprinted this would not have been possible.
Being fingerprinted would cut down the cases of ID theft, and the criminal would not be able to get employment and law enforcement would be able to track them.
