I missed a call from an unknown number that left a voicemail stating they were the King County Sheriff’s Dept. and that a dead body was found (didn’t recognize the name at all) in Seattle and that they were calling because my phone number was in his contacts and to call back if I could. Could I face charges if I do not call the number back?
I have no idea who this person is or why they would have my phone number. I think it might have been a prank call.
THE SHERIFFS DEPT. CALLED ME?

You won’t face charges if you don’t call back.

yeah, you can be a suspect if you don’t respond, it depends on the case.
You should call, but be careful because it can be scam.

No, but I personally would call them back to avoid suspicion. They are just following up on leads, like they do in any murder investigation.
Think about it this way. If it was your family member, wouldn’t you want the police to follow up on leads and find out what happened to your loved one?

No, you could not. If the Sheriffs department wanted to talk to you, they wouldn`t leave a voice mail, they would want to talk to you in person. Sounds to me as if someone is pulling a prank on you. I wouldn`t worry about it. If they want to talk, they will face you.

Could it be a stupid prank?.
I would not worry. If they really need information they would contact you in a more formal manner. Probably a letter.

I also agree, but the sheriffs depts number is not going to come up unknown. I just don’t see that. It really does sound like some one is screwing with you. Don’t trip. I would call the number back and see who answers.

call the number back using *67 before you call. The person who called is not a police officer. they wouldnt call you, they would go to your house. then again better o be safe then sorry. just call using *67 before you type the numbers in, then if its a person pulling a prank they wont know its you calling and they will awnser and youll know
