I live in Orlando FL and around the whole city I’ve only seen about 1 or 2 police cars, but sheriff deputies are everywhere. I assume the police department mainly responds to calls and handles investigations and stings and that sort of stuff while the sheriffs office is mainly for patrol? I’m looking to join the force but don’t want to drive around handing out tickets my whole life as I know I have to start out that way anyways.

…yeah they are really cracking down out here. well my registration was soon to be expired, i thought i had another week…so the cop pulls me over. i was doing the speed limit, not on the phone…nothing. he tells me when he pulls me over that he can run my plates whenever he wants, wherever he wants. he was the same cop that had pulled me over 2 of the 5 times!!

it feels like he was waiting for my registration to expire, & he CLEARLY knows my car!! my real concern is this…if i have current registration & insurance can i still be stopped if im following the traffic laws? can they legally run to see what the status of my license is through the registration of my plates??

when running my plates what are the limitations as to what law enforcement can & can not do?
well maybe i didnt make myself clear…i know he had every right to pull me over when my registration had expired wether i realized it had expired or not.

my question is when registration/tags are CURRENT…im legal, have insurance & he see’s that when he runs my plates

…is he still able to pull me over, if there is no traffic code violation??

Got copy of the sherriffs report and they are stating not the cops fault. How do you fight this. I feel this is the good old boy club at work. The police were following my son for about 3 blocks, he was turning RIGHT into our driveway, and the police officers hit him on the passenger side door, they were in the back following him. My son did make a wide turn to avoid hitting a car already parked in the driveway and another car on the street. The accident occurred in a residental area on a small street. The sherriffs report stated my son pulled into oncoming traffic. It was about 10:45 at night and my son did not use his turn signal, but according to the police dvd he did brake. Is is even possible to fight this being that it’s the city. I can’t even find a lawyer that would interested in taking on the city. We live in Texas, yep the good old boy state!

I passed all the tests, or I thought, and was only awaiting my date to take my psychological exam and medical exam before entering the academy. I was sent a letter claiming that I would not be hired based on: Driving under the influence. This was something that I had only admitted to doing ever in my life during one of the oral interviews, it was noted as a minor concern and never brought up again. I have never been convicted of a DUI or been pulled over/questioned or anything regaurding anything about one. Only that I had admitted to doing so…..I was wondering what my chances are of getting hired with another dept right now if I chose to start re-applying as I know they will have access to my LASD file.

Out of all of them, I think I’d like to join the sheriff’s office. And the sheriff’s office that I looked up is really cool and has all kinds of specialized units.
    I love the idea of just working with traffic. But some other ones I like are the K9 Unit and the Mounted Patrol.
    Can anyone explain the Mounted Patrol though? I’m assuming that’s the one where you have a horse. What do they do exactly?

I know networking is good money, but I’ve never heard a police officer complain about their jobs, they always love it.

    The thing I’m a little worried about is the employment for police officers. I currently know a sheriff that was laid off a few years ago and I’m curious if it happens alot, or should I be woried. I know the career is dangerous, but it seems like alot more fun than being a network specialist, where I have to do the same thing every day. If there are any officers out there that can give me some advice, it’ll be much appreciated. Also, I’m 18.

    I just read this article, and its pretty sad. Maybe if the US banned all guns for civilian use, a long time ago, these kind of things wont happen. Not to mention they spill into Canada. Europe doesn’t have them.
    If he came with a knife, her chances of Survival would be much much higher.
    So every person needs to have a gun, even when they’re at work….hmm that sounds very smart.
