Is it easier/to get into the Police Dept or the Sheriffs Dept?

07 Jun

My girlfriend and I were having a discussion about the Police Dept and the Sheriffs Dept. She was saying she heard that it’s harder to get into the Sheriffs Dept, than the PD, that Sheriffs is stricter??? I’m wondering if both are the same to try to get into. Can anyone shed some light on this? I spoke to a friend of mine who’s a Sheriff and he told me that it’s pretty easy. Any feedback is appreciated : )
Additional info..we were discussing L.A. County

How do you get into buying foreclosed homes or homes at auction?

01 Jun

I see lots of ads out there for buying junk and listing but I was wondering how I can really get into it. My husband and I have bought 2 dumps and complete reconstructed them and made them beautiful to resell in order to move to a bigger home. We want to find our dream home next and with the market getting so bad- I was wondering how do you really get involved in foreclosed homes? Do I need to get a license or take a class? Or can someone give me the direction to start in? Also how do you get involved in sheriff sales or auctions? Is one (foreclosures, sheriff sales or auction) any better then the other? We currently live in Philadelphia and want to move out to the suburbs- the housing here is slow but not as bad as CA or other areas. We want to finish up this house and sell it and find a nice home in a better school district.
Where should I start?
Thanks!!!
LOL- I am not going to run out and do it tomorrow- I will do lots of research first and I have no intent of doing it for a least a few years. Like I said it would have to be THE house for us :)

What do U think border agents are pulled into corruption border under sized & controled by Mex Drug Cartel?

25 May

McALLEN, Texas • Corruption along the U.S.-Mexican border takes many forms.

It can start as simply as a smuggler’s $50 gift to the child of a reluctant federal agent, quickly escalating to out-and-out bribes. “Everyone does it,” the agent, now in prison, recalls telling himself. Other times, county sheriffs greedily grab thousands from drug dealers. In a few instances, traffickers even place members in the applicant pool for sensitive border protection jobs.

An Associated Press investigation has found U.S. law officers who work the border are being charged with criminal corruption in numbers not seen before, as drug and immigrant smugglers use money and sometimes sex to buy protection, and internal investigators crack down.

Based on Freedom of Information Act requests, interviews with sentenced agents and a review of court records, the AP tallied corruption-related convictions against more than 80 enforcement officials at all levels — federal, state and local — since 2007, shortly after Mexican President Felipe Calderon declared war on the cartels that peddle up to $39 billion worth of drugs in the United States each year.

U.S. officials have long pointed to Mexico’s rampantly corrupt cops and broken judicial system, but Calderon told the AP this isn’t just a Mexican problem.

“To get drugs into the United States the one you need to corrupt is the American authority, the American customs, the American police — not the Mexican. And that’s a subject, by the way, which hasn’t been addressed with sincerity,” the Mexican president said. “I’m waging my battle against corruption among Mexican authorities and we’re risking everything to clean our house, but I think there also needs to be a good cleaning on the other side of the border.”

In fact, U.S. prosecutors have been taking notice. Drug traffickers look “for weaknesses in the armor,” said former prosecutor Yolanda de Leon in Cameron County, Texas.

One such weakness was her own county’s Sheriff Conrado Cantu. With his thick mustache, ample belly and Western hat, Cantu was a backslapping natural in the political machine of Cameron County, population 335,000. The county includes Brownsville, Texas, directly across the Rio Grande from Matamoros, Mexico.

Can I legally get back into my house during foreclosure?

24 May

I’m in the process of bankruptcy and we’re foreclosing on our house. We’ve moved out already, however, we still have some things I’d like to get out if I can. Problem is: there is a lockbox on the door, and it went up for a sheriff’s auction this past Friday (and it did sell). I am assuming that we’ve lost our stuff, but I thought I’d ask here anyway. This is in Ohio in case that matters.

what kind of trouble can you get into by putting a letter in someones mailbox?

24 May

My ex is a jerk and my hubby went by their house and dropped a letter in their mail box to let them know of our upcoming plans for the holiday and we just received a call from the county sherriffs dept. that my ex wants to make a report that my hubby tampered with his mail box and that it is a federal offense (I know that tampering with mail is). But seroiusly how much trouble can you get into for dropping off a letter in someones mail box? The content is not in dispute, there was nothing in the letter that would cause alarm or concern, just an informative letter on the holiday schedual. But what could be in store for us?
we were just trying to keep him informed and we could not mail it to them for it to get there in time for the holidays. he ‘misses’ calls, ‘doesn’t get’ emails we send, and “forgets” that he says things and we were just trying to make sure that he had all the information that he needed, since were are sharing the holiday.
another note,,,,,we just filed in Sept. a motion to modify custody to gain full custody of my childeren. My ex and I have joint custody.

Applying for Sheriff Deputy: what is the most “relevant” factor in getting into getting hired?

23 May

I’m in the middle of applying for the Sheriff department in my local area.

I had a few questions regarding this:

1.what does the department most emphasize on choosing the potential sheriff? (the job interview, physical test, etc?)

2.If you’re a minority ethnicity, will it enhance your chances of getting into the academy? For instance: if you’re a female, or asian/native american, etc.

3.what can I do to seperate myself from other applicants? In terms of making myself more appealing to the department?

thank you.

What kind of person would throw a new born baby into a garbage dumpster like they’re taking out the trash?

19 May

STANTON — A 19 year old Anaheim woman was arrested Thursday for allegedly dumping her newborn baby in a dumpster behind a Mexican restaurant in Stanton.

The woman, whose name was not released, was taken under guard to a hospital to be treated for ailments related to childbirth, said Orange County sheriff’s spokesperson Jim Amormino.

When she is released, she will be booked at the Orange County jail on suspicion of murder, according to Amormino, who said the baby girl was alive when the woman gave birth.

The baby’s body was discovered about 7 p.m. Wednesday outside the Sombrero’s restaurant at 7006 Katella Ave. in Stanton, authorities said.

It wasn’t clear how long the infant had been dead when the body was found.

What do you think about illegal who has been deported in the past now he crashes into deputy on purpose?

11 May

What do you think about who has been deported in the past now he crashes into deputy on purpose and is trying to kill him ? Better life ? Hardworker does jobs no Americans want do ?SANTA ANA – A man with a criminal rap sheet crashed head-on with an Orange County Sheriff’s deputy, and officials Monday said they believe the crash was intentional.

Video from the deputy’s patrol car shows that the man was stopped at a red light, facing the deputy on the opposite side of the intersection of Flower and 1st Street before the crash occurred Sunday morning, said Jim Amormino spokesman for the Orange County Sheriff’s department. The driver of the car, identified as David Arauho Reyes, began to turn left when the light turn green, then appeared to change direction and headed straight for the deputy.

“He accelerates and crashes head on,” Amormino said.

The impact of the crash left both the patrol car, a marked black and white vehicle, and Reyes’ vehicle badly damaged, Amormino said. The deputy suffered cuts around his face and head, and struggled to get out of the patrol car after the crash.

“You can hear him struggling,” Amormino said.

The deputy drew his handgun and walked toward Reyes’ car to handcuff him just seconds after the crash, Amormino said. Reyes stepped out of the car with his hands in the air, he said.

“It’s clearly an intentional act,” Amormino said.

The deputy, who was identified by the sheriff’s department only as a 12-year veteran who works with the Orange County Transportation Authority, took Reyes into custody. He was later taken to a local hospital to be treated. He has been released since.

Reyes, 25, is currently being held in Santa Ana jail on suspicion of attempted murder of a peace officer, Amormino said. He is being held without bail.

Cpl. Anthony Bertagna of the Santa Ana Police Department said Reyes is a documented gang member in Santa Ana. He had been recently released from jail on a robbery charge.

Investigators are still looking into what prompted the crash, but said Reyes is a convicted criminal who has been deported in the past. He has been previously arrested on suspicion of robbery, street terrorism, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Authorities are looking into alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision, Amormino said.

Illinois State Public Guardian Office has evicted me, but broke into the the 2 flat building 2 WEEKS EARLY?

07 May

Illinois State Public Guardian Office (Cook County Sheriffs) has evicted me, but broke into the the 2 flat building 2 WEEKS BEFORE (5/18) THE EVICTION DATE 6/1 (front door, 1st floor – back door on 2nd floor) They have stole about 800-1000 dollars & 2 Best Buy gift cards total value of $50.00.
This action has happened as My Mother was taken by the State of Illinois as she has alzheimers & they (so-called investigator from Met. Family Services {V. Green}) lied on me?
They falsely cast aspersions me of abuse (money; & having sex with her and beating her). ALL LIES – as those evil persons who hold power have used this to take my Mothers life (by putting her in a nursing home & separating us not allowing us to talk) & take all of her assets. Did originally pay a lawyer $5000.00 dollars & he never came to court causing my mother to be lost in ‘the system’. Lastly, a 2nd order of protection was put on me by the State guardian & nursing home admin preventing me from seeing her. Please help

Your opinion Now Ohio being pressured into AZ-style immigrant law?

04 May

An Ohio sheriff known for taking extreme steps to crack down on undocumented immigrants and a Republican state representative are urging the state to pass an immigration law similar to the controversial one in Arizona.

Butler County Sheriff Richard K. Jones and state House Rep. Courtney Combs have sent a letter to Ohio Governor Ted Strickland asking him to pass a law that “mirrors” the one in Arizona, reports WLWT channel 5 in Cincinnati.

“Our federal government has failed us when it comes to securing the border and stopping the flow of thousands of illegals entering this country on a daily basis,” WLWT quoted Rep. Jones as saying. “If the federal government won’t do it, it is time that states take that responsibility upon themselves.”

Arizona’s law allows police to stop and question anyone they suspect of being an illegal immigrant, even if they don’t suspect that person of any other wrongdoing. Critics say the bill will lead to racial profiling, and some commentators have even compared the measure to race-based laws in Nazi Germany.

For Sheriff Jones, the push to allow police greater powers to combat illegal immigration may be partly personal. Last week, his office paid $100,000 to settle a lawsuit brought against Jones by a man who said he was unconstitutionally detained by deputies during a 2007 illegal immigrant raid on a construction site.

Story continues below…
——————————————————————————–
According to the Hamilton, Ohio, Journal-News, Luis Rodriguez had been living in Ohio for 11 years when he was arrested by Jones’ deputies, charged with providing false identification, and deported to Mexico. The charges against Rodriguez were later dropped.

In a 2006 profile of Butler, Right Wing Watch described the sheriff as “running his own personal campaign against undocumented immigrants. … He’s taken out newspaper ads, he put up six billboards in the area with his personage warning ‘Hire an Illegal—Break the Law!’ and he even started his own blog on the web site of the sheriff’s office to organize a boycott of businesses that hire undocumented immigrants.”

Rep. Combs, a Republican whose district includes the Cincinnati suburb of Hamilton, also has a track record of fighting undocumented immigrants. Last year he introduced a bill that would require employers to check the Social Security numbers of new employees to ensure they are in the US legally.

“Combs said in May 2009 the bill [is] about giving jobs to Americans and taking away a paycheck from illegal immigrants during tough economic times,” the Dayton Daily News reports.

WLWT reports that Combs and Jones hope to travel to Arizona to meet with Gov. Jan Brewer, who signed the state’s immigration bill into law last week.

Since the Arizona law came into force, it has been criticized by commentators and politicians who believe it goes too far. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, who was Arizona’s governor until last year, has said her department will “review” the law. Mexican President Felipe Calderon has said the law will lead to racial discrimination and hate, and his government has issued a travel warning for Arizona. Even Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham has said he believes the law may be unconstitutional.
