Children decorating leather?

30 Apr

Looking for a simple craft for my church’s Bible School, which has a western theme. Came across some leather sheriff’s badges that I would like the kids to make into keychains. I don’t want to get into stamping the leather – we won’t have enough time for that. Will Sharpies decorate the leather OK or should we use some kind of paint? (If paint, what kind?)

I don’t want it to be too messy – we’re talking 6-12 year olds doing this – but I would like it to last OK. Maybe there’s a fixative of some kind we could spray them with after they are colored or painted?

Thanks for the help!!

Does anyone know of any organizations that will donate toys for needy children?

16 Apr

I work @ a small sheriff’s office in North GA, and we sponsor a program for less fortunate children @ Christmas time. This year our funds are very low, and I was wondering if there was anyone out there on the web that could help guide me in trying to get donations from some of the larger toy companies or stores.

parents, children, and internet monitoring ?

26 Mar

Good morning.
The latest breaking news in the case of the MO teen who dug 2 graves, and premeditated the murder of her 9-year old neighbor:

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – On an Internet site, 15-year-old Alyssa Bustamante listed her hobbies as “killing people” and “cutting.” It may have sounded like a teenage exaggeration, but authorities say she fulfilled her words.

Even as new details emerge about the teenager charged with killing 9-year-old Elizabeth Olten, many facts about the crime continued to be kept secret Thursday — and may never be released by authorities unless Bustamante goes to trial for murder.

Bustamante, who had been in juvenile custody since leading police to Elizabeth’s body Oct. 23, was certified Wednesday as an adult and indicted on charges of first-degree murder and armed criminal action. She is accused of strangling Elizabeth, cutting her throat and stabbing her.

Online court records showed Thursday that a public defender assigned to represent Bustamante filed a motion seeking to have her placed in a state hospital for immediate mental health treatment.

On a YouTube profile viewed by The Associated Press, which has since been taken down, Bustamante listed her hobbies as “killing people” and “cutting.” A year ago, Bustamante posted a video to the site in which she appears to intentionally shock herself on an electric fence near her home, then goads her two younger brothers into doing the same.

In court Wednesday, juvenile justice officials testified that Bustamante attempted to commit suicide in 2007 and had been receiving mental health treatment for depression and cutting herself.

A police officer testified that Bustamante confessed to digging two holes to be used as a grave, then killing Elizabeth five days later without provocation because she wanted to know what it felt like.

But repeated objections by Bustamante’s juvenile justice attorney prevented the police officer from explaining why two holes were dug. Cole County prosecutor Mark Richardson also has declined to elaborate.

“I know that, but I cannot go into those details right now,” Richardson said.

Asked if he could say whether Elizabeth’s body was found in only one of those holes, Richardson paused for several seconds and again replied: “No, I can’t tell you that right now.”

Richardson similarly declined to explain what the sheriff meant when he said last month that the investigation was aided by “some written evidence.” The Cole County sheriff’s office did not immediately return a call Thursday.

Those kinds of details might normally be included in a probable cause statement from sheriff’s deputies or police as a basis for a prosecutor to file charges. But in Bustamante’s case, there is no probable cause statement in the court file, because she was instead indicted by a grand jury.

Greater details of the crime also are included in Bustamante’s juvenile court records, but those will remain closed under state law, said Cole County Juvenile Court Administrator Michael County.

No further details are expected to emerge at a Dec. 7 status hearing in Bustamante’s case. It could be months, maybe even a year, before a trial at which witnesses would be called to explain the details and circumstances of the crime. But no trial — or testimony — would occur if Bustamante were to plead guilty to a charge.

Although he did not rule it out, Richardson said he wasn’t inclined to agree to a plea on a charge of anything less than first-degree murder, which carries a sentence of life in prison without parole.

“Because of the nature of the case, there is not a lot of room to enter into pleas,” he said.

I have a couple of questions:
1) do you feel that children should or should not have their internet activity monitored and checked ?
2) do you think, in this case, if an adult HAD bothered to monitor and check this girl’s internet activity, that they would have been alarmed and possibly could have interceded ?
I guarantee you, chickenfarmer, had I seen that from one of my kids, they’d probably be getting more counseling, and I’d be watching them like a hawk. scary, too, kids are so desensitized to talk like this, that it doesn’t seem like any of the youtube community was concerned enough about what she posted to flag and/or report it.

What is your opinion illegal aliens using SS# children dead people people aboard is this fair to our kids?

SANTA ROSA CO., Fla. — Santa Rosa County investigators raided two Mexican restaurants and arrested ten suspected illegal immigrants, making a total of 23 illegal immigrant arrests this week. They were working at a popular Mexican restaurant…La Hacienda.

Investigators believe the suspects paid up to $200 for other people’s social security numbers and used them for employment. Most of the numbers were from small children, people who are deceased, or people living abroad.

Scott Haines with the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office told FOX10 News, “It’s not just a problem of undocumented workers, issue is identity theft, they’re using social security numbers that belong to legitimate hard working people.”

Investigators first found out about the issue through a complaint. The Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s office is now joining up with Escambia, Okaloosa and Walton counties.

We spoke by phone with a man who claimed to be one of the owners of the restaurant. He says he didn’t know the workers might be illegal. No one else affiliated with the restaurant has been accused of wrong doing. http://www.myfoxgulfcoast.com/myfox…

100 years for man who poisoned his kids in extortion scheme
100-Year Sentence For Dad Who Poisoned Kids:

William Cunningham of Clayton County, Georgia received the maximum sentence of 100 years for poisoning his own children. In 2006 Cunningham fed his 18-month-old daughter and 3-year-old son a deadly combination of prescription drugs, lighter fluid and Campbell Soup. His plan was to get his kids either sick or killed and then try and squeeze some money of the Campbell Soup Company.

Luckily the kids survived but they now have scarred lungs from being force fed the lighter fluid from the concoction and will more than likely have lifelong breathing problems.

I still can’t understand the type of person whose brain is so broken that they would put a price on their own children’s heads.

Girl would have lived if man called 911
Girl might have lived:

According to this article it seems that 23-year-old Matthew Roland of Waccasassa, Florida beat his 4-year-old daughter, Kristina Hepp, within an inch of her life. I say within an inch because if someone had called 911 to get her medical attention she would have lived. Folds didn’t call because he didn’t want to go to jail for child abuse. I guess going to jail for first-degree murder is so much better.

Roland’s live in vagina, 19-year-old Chelci Rae Folds, (Chelci? Really? Stripper name.) has been charged with child neglect. She didn’t call 911 either.

Crying baby in filthy apartment leads to woman’s arrest (with REPORT)

Daily News
FORT WALTON BEACH — A 20-year-old woman was arrested and charged with child abuse Thursday, the day after deputies found a 7-month old baby alone and crying in her filthy apartment.

The baby girl was strapped in a car seat, wearing a diaper overflowing with urine and fecal matter, according to an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office offense report.

The neighbor who called police said she had seen Jennifer D’Silva leave her Beverly Street apartment at about 5:30 Tuesday evening and had not seen her return.

The woman said she went outside her apartment at about 7:30 Wednesday morning and heard the baby crying. She said she knocked, but when no one answered she called for help.

The deputy was also unable to get anyone to answer. When the property manager unlocked the apartment, the deputies could smell “a strong odor of fecal matter and decay,” according to the report.

Inside, he saw the baby lying strapped in a car seat with no top on, partially covered with a bed sheet that appeared to be blood-stained. The car seat was on the floor in front of the TV and surrounded by dirty diapers, trash, empty rash ointment bottles and dirty wipes.

The rest of the apartment was in a similar state of disarray.

The deputy who changed the baby’s diaper noticed that she had a rash and blisters in her vaginal area, some of which were open.

The baby was taken to the Children’s Advocacy Center for a medical examination, where doctors said the baby’s head was misshapen and she has a weak muscular structure, possibly from being restrained in a car seat for extended periods of time.

The baby also had a rash, blisters and a yeast infection caused by urine burns and fecal matter, the report said.

Investigators accessed D’Silva’s Myspace page and found numerous photos of her hanging out at what appear to be clubs and parties, despite the fact that she is underage.

Some of the dates and comments coincided with times that the neighbor told police she had heard the baby crying, but did not see D’Silva’s car parked outside.

The neighbor said she had started to watch D’Silva after noticing that the woman left frequently but never took the baby with her.

Police recognized D’Silva’s “partner” from her Myspace page and found the woman’s address. They arrested D’Silva there Thursday.

She told them she would not talk with them until she had talked to her lawyer. She was fingerprinted and her Myspace documentation was entered into evidence, the report said.
i should have asked about the death penalty but since that doesn’t even appear to be a viable option…for some reason, those who torture and murder or abuse children get a VERY light sentence as if the child being 17 mos old made it ok to beat him, break his back and ribs and allow the pet rottweiler to attack him and then punch him so hard that he swallows baby teeth and then just watch him die.
