What do you think was fired after 14 years because the resort could pay an illegal immigrant less money.?

08 Jul

BRASELTON, Ga. — At a time when many Georgians are having trouble finding a job, a CBS Atlanta investigation has uncovered illegal immigrants working at Chateau Elan. A former employee thinks she was fired after 14 years because the resort could pay an illegal immigrant less money.

Chateau Elan is considered by many to be a playground for the rich and well-connected. Guests enjoy the on-site winery, pristine golf-course, spa services at the immaculatley manicured resort in Braselton. But employees tell CBS Atlanta Chateau Elan has a hiring practice management doesn’t want to talk about.

“The truth is they hire illegal immigrants,” said a current employee who asked that her identity be hidden. Undercover video shows Spanish-speaking employees working in housekeeping, laundry and the winery. The employee said some illegal immigrants asked to marry her so they could get “papers” that would allow them to stay in the country legally.

Gwinnett County Sheriff records show a Chateau Elan supervisor was arrested for driving without a license in March and turned over to immigration authorities because he wasn’t in the United States legally. Sheriff office documents show nearly a dozen others who claimed to work at Chateau Elan were not United States citizens when they were arrested from 2000 to 2010.

“I liked working at Chateau Elan,” said Barbara Schindler. The 14-year employee was terminated in January 2009. She believes she was replaced with cheaper illegal labor.

“It’s wrong. It’s hard to find work,” said Schindler.

Chateau Elan management would not agree to an on-camera interview.

In a statement sent to CBS Atlanta, the resort’s president and CEO Henk Evers wrote: “We would not dishonor its [Chateau Elan's] reputation through the employment of people who do not have the legal right to work within our country.” The statement goes on to say, “your call prompted us to re-evaluate our affiliation with HS Solutions Inc., the outside organization that provides non-guest facing services to Chateau Elan that you mentioned in your phone call to Doug Rollins, Chateau Elan’s vice president of sales and marketing. Effective immediately, we have terminated our contract for outside employment services with HSS.”

Did Chateau Elan break the law? A spokesperson for the resort said it was up to HS Solutions to verify the legal status of each applicant. However, if Chateau Elan management knew illegal immigrants worked there and did nothing about it, they would be breaking the law.http://www.cbsatlanta.com/news/23822534/detail.html

What would be the best thing to do right now because someone called the cops on me ?

24 May

I don’t know why someone called the cops on me but right now there is 2 police officer cars sitting right outside my house and both of the police officers are female officers. I’m an cross dresser and I was at home alone and I didn’t do anything bad at all. But I will tell you what I was doing before the cops came, I got dressed up in an Denim Mini Skirt with an Button up shirt that i tied up a little bit to reveal my belly button and I wore 6 Inch Black Patent Stiletto Pumps with make up and mascara and a wig. I also wore lip stick also too and I was walking around outside in my outfit looking at the flowers my parents planted and I started walking back inside but when I got to the garage door the cops car pulled into my driveway and I ran inside. I’m sitting Inside and I am scared right now because I don’t know what to do and I didn’t do anything wrong or mess with anybody. The sheriff’s department left a message on my answer machine said they got a call by somebody saying that there was someone who looks like a hooker was at this place and looked suspicious but the cops cars is still out there. What would be the best thing to do right now ?? If I opened the door and asked what’s going on would they arrest me ?? I really need your help because I’m so scared right now.

How can I explain leaving my last job so quickly (because of a harassing boss)in a Sheriff’s Deputy Interview?

03 May

Hi,
I recently left my job of 6 months due to harassment issues with my female boss. I put in a formal complaint about her along with my resignation because she was saying completely inappropriate and personal things to me (the complaint was given to the city council and they were appalled and tried to work things out and get me to stay). I liked my other boss who was male, but I told my employer that I was leaving strictly because of the harassment (the city council gave my female boss a talk about her behavior but I felt that wouldn’t be enough). This was the reason I left in such haste, but there were also underlying issues such as very low pay (11.50$ an hour and I have a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice) and no room to move up. I am going into law enforcement and I do not want to lie but Im not sure I want to mention the harassment since I do not want my interviewers to think I would be stirring up trouble in their department, yet I do not want to look like a quitter. What would be the best thing to say and what would you do in my situation? I don’t want this to negatively effect my chances of being hired.

Thank you so much!

Doesn’t this make you ANGRY???? Sheriff Joe threatened because he’s doing his JOB!!!!?

Arpaio aide is loyal listener to Spanish show

Aug. 30, 2006 12:00 AM

For the past six weeks, a Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputy has been monitoring a Spanish-language radio show for threats on Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s life.

None has been heard, but the daily recording of the 740 AM morning show hosted by Elias Bermudez, an immigrant rights activist, continues. More than 45 hours of the show are stored on two dozen cassette tapes.

The monitoring started, the Sheriff’s Office says, after a tip from Bermudez. The host told the Sheriff’s Office that a caller claimed a Mexican hit man had been hired to kill Arpaio. advertisement

Bermudez said he would tell Arpaio’s office about any such calls. But there hasn’t been any since.

Bermudez said he couldn’t give the Sheriff’s Office the phone number of the caller because the station doesn’t have the equipment to track calls.

Arpaio is mentioned frequently on the show, Bermudez said. People say they wish Arpaio would drop dead or had never been born. But mostly they talk of getting him out of office and ridicule Bermudez for a stunt in July, when the activist got on his knees and begged Arpaio to stop arresting undocumented immigrants on smuggling charges.

That day, Arpaio asked Bermudez whether his statements were a threat.

Bermudez said he hopes the Sheriff’s Office will learn something by listening – not about death threats, but about the immigrant community.

That’s unlikely. The only benefit to Bermudez would be if the deputy paid to monitor his show has a ratings book.

Is it legal to postpone an election because of a candidate’s death?

25 Apr

In Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, longtime Sheriff Harry Lee died yesterday. He was running for re-election, with the election to be held this month. Since his death on Oct. 1, the powers that be have decided to postpone the election to November. Also, qualifying has been re-opened for the election, and any candidate who has already qualified (only 2 others besides Lee) must re-qualify. One candidate has filed suit to attempt to carry on the election as planned.

Of course, with Lee gone, many more candidates will enter the race, making it a wide open field. Lee was a guaranteed winner everytime he ran. Now there will most likely be at least a dozen candidates that throw their hat in the ring now that Lee has passed away, and qualifying has been re-opened.

Do you think this is fair to the other 2 candidates? Is it legal? What normally would happen if a candidate died before an election? Would/should the election be posponed? Are there special rules that apply to incumbents?

Should the “Prophet” of the Mormon Church apologize to the Catholics because of crimes done by missionaries?

12 Mar

SAN LUIS, Colo. – A Mormon church official says he is “mortified” by allegations that three young missionaries vandalized a Catholic shrine in the San Luis Valley of southern Colorado.

The Sangre de Cristo Parish Council has asked authorities to file charges. The names of the three missionaries, ages 19 and 20, have not been released.

Photos posted on the Internet showed a man holding a head broken off a statue in the shrine. Others show a man appearing to preach from the Book of Mormon in the shrine and one man pretending to sacrifice another at an altar.

Robert Fotheringham, a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints official, confirms the men in the pictures are missionaries.

He says the church is “mortified” by the allegation and calls the incident “inexcusable.”

Church to vote on vandalism charges
Web photos show LDS missionaries damaging a Catholic shrine in the San Luis Valley.
By MATT HILDNER
THE PUEBLO CHIEFTAIN
SAN LUIS – Officials of the Sangre de Cristo Catholic Church here may decide today whether to file charges against three Mormon missionaries in the 2006 vandalism of a local shrine.

Church members earlier this week found Internet photos that showed them vandalizing the Shrine of the Mexican Martyrs in 2006 and mocking the Roman Catholic faith.

A regional missionary official for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has acknowledged the men depicted in the photos were missionaries working in the San Luis Valley that year, and said the church would discipline the men. He would not, however, identify them.

Sangre de Cristo Catholic Church members discovered a Web photo Thursday that showed an LDS missionary holding the severed head of a statue at the shrine, which sits next to the Stations of the Cross on a mesa

above town. Townspeople since found the head had been placed back on the statue.

Other photos, also posted on the Photobucket Web site, but removed after Thursday, depicted another missionary who appeared to preach from the Book of Mormon inside the Chapel of All Saints. A third photo showed one missionary pretending to sacrifice another on the altar at the Shrine of the Mexican Martyrs.

Members of the Sangre de Cristo parish built the Stations of the Cross in 1987. Parishioners in the 2000s built the Shrine of the Mexican Martyrs, both which Valdez said have become major tourist attractions. No dollar amount has been determined for damage resulting from the vandalism.

Cpl. Scott Powell, of the Costilla County Sheriff’s office, said the men could face up to six charges, including felonies for criminal mischief and conspiracy.

“What they did was extremely imprudent, extremely uncharitable and inflammatory,” the Rev. Pat Valdez told parishioners at a meeting Friday night. “Yo

“What they did was extremely imprudent, extremely uncharitable and inflammatory,” the Rev. Pat Valdez told parishioners at a meeting Friday night. “You have worked hard and this whole community has worked hard to build that shrine as an expression of our faith and an expression of our love of God.”

The Sangre de Cristo parish council is expected to vote today on whether to request that charges be filed against the three men.

Robert Fotheringham, who is in charge of the LDS church’s missionary program in parts of four states, and whose region includes the San Luis Valley, declined to release names of the missionaries. He did confirm, however, that the three in the pictures were church missionaries, who at the time were serving in the towns of Manassa and Sanford.

“We’re just mortified this has happened. This is not what we’re about,” he said.

He said the three, who come from California, Idaho and Nevada, would face restrictions on their church memberships, although he decl

declined to discuss the nature of the restrictions.

Fotheringham met with Valdez and other community members Friday morning and presented them with a written apology from one of the missionaries, signed by an R. Thompson.

“I realize that my companions and I have made a mockery of that which is most sacred to many of the residents of San Luis and the rest of the world. I should have known better because I have seen many of the same types of blasphemies made against my own church and I have been appalled,” the statement said.

Frotheringham said Mormon missionaries are trained in church doctrine before they depart on their missions, but they don’t receive special instructions about the areas where they will be stationed.

However, he said the missionaries’ handbook instructs them to respect the culture, customs, religious beliefs and sacred sites of communities that missionaries visit.

Many in attendance at Friday night’s meeting expressed belief the missionaries should be held accountable for their actions.

One man said “turning the other cheek” means community members should not try to take revenge. They should, however, uphold personal accountability by filing charges.

Valdez echoed some of the man’s sentiments moments later.

“That’s understood in this room. There’s no hate, there’s no revenge,” he said.

My son, a deputy sheriff, had training with INS and said they are frustrated because their hands are so tied..

10 Mar

Isn’t this frustrating to know that we have agents who are kept from doing their jobs?

They say that there is only a 15 bed facility in the lower part of South Carolina to house illegals. That they had to satisfy 89 points before they could detain an illegal!

Why is the President and our Congress hamstringing these agents??

Why are we being promised one thing after another and yet INS and ICE are not able to properly, effectively do their jobs?
