Long story short, a 70+ year old woman at my church is charging me with misdemeanor assault saying I attacked her at church a few weeks ago. Here’s the story.
For more than 30 years this woman and my dad have been seeing each other on and off. My mom has tolerated this for years but she told the woman to never call her house. Ok, when my mom and sisters went to the Virgin Island for a get away back in Nov this woman decided to call my parent’s house. Granted, she would have only known to call unless my dad called her first or told her my mom would be out of town. Ok, when they got home my mom saw the number on the caller ID and really lit into my dad. This woman claimed she never called my dad but the called ID doesn’t lie. Anyway, the following Sunday I decided to talk to the woman and advice her never to call my parent’s house again. It was right after church and when she walked by I told her I needed to talk to her. I told her to never call my mom’s house again and she claimed she didn’t call. At that point a group of people started to gather so I put my hand on her arm to lead her to the back of the church. At that point she grabs me up around my tie breaking the button off my shirt. A few other people separated us but according to her I assaulted her because I touched her first. We had a meeting with the pastor and she said she never called my parent’s house.
Now, today I received papers from the sheriff advising me of the court date in Feb. According to her statement she said she was on her way to the bathroom and I just grabbed her up around her chest. The only witnesses she listed was my girlfriend who was standing there with me and another woman who seperated us. I’ve talked to the woman and she says that I didn’t grab her. I just put my hand on her arm and it looked like I was leading her to the fellowship hall away from the crowd. That’s when she grabbed me.
Do courts take notorized statements in cases like this because times are hard and I don’t want to ask anyone to take off their jobs for this nonsense.
This woman said she was calling in regards to church business. But in the past 20+ years or so she’s never had to call for church business, why now when my mom was conveniently out of town? Her story is so full of holes until it’s funny. I guess my girlfriend is gonna side with her. What’s funny is that she’s claiming to have all these witnesses but only listed my girlfriend and another girl on the court papers.
What do you guys think will happen to this? I’m not worried about it that much but it is a thought on my mind right now. Our pastor tired to get her to drop this because she’s gonna dig up 30+ years of her and my dad going together. And that’s gossip that doesn’t need to be floating around the church. Not that everyone doesn’t already know. My mom stopped going to our church years ago to avoid this woman but she stayed with my dad for the sake of the kids.
What do you guys think?
Does it even matter that she got the date wrong on the complaint? It happened a week earlier but she put a different date on the police report. It happened on the 16th of November. She said it happened on the 23rd but she didn’t file her police report until the 5th of Dec. If she was that assaulted she would have gone right after the incident and filed a report.
From what I’ve been told was that the “church business” was to discuss with my dad, who’s a deacon, the details of a funeral. Funny thing is that the person didn’t die for nearly 2 days later. How do you discuss a funeral when the person isn’t even dead? It was a little girl who had sickle cell and died unexpectantly Sat night. She called my parent’s house on Friday.
