What do you think was fired after 14 years because the resort could pay an illegal immigrant less money.?

08 Jul

BRASELTON, Ga. — At a time when many Georgians are having trouble finding a job, a CBS Atlanta investigation has uncovered illegal immigrants working at Chateau Elan. A former employee thinks she was fired after 14 years because the resort could pay an illegal immigrant less money.

Chateau Elan is considered by many to be a playground for the rich and well-connected. Guests enjoy the on-site winery, pristine golf-course, spa services at the immaculatley manicured resort in Braselton. But employees tell CBS Atlanta Chateau Elan has a hiring practice management doesn’t want to talk about.

“The truth is they hire illegal immigrants,” said a current employee who asked that her identity be hidden. Undercover video shows Spanish-speaking employees working in housekeeping, laundry and the winery. The employee said some illegal immigrants asked to marry her so they could get “papers” that would allow them to stay in the country legally.

Gwinnett County Sheriff records show a Chateau Elan supervisor was arrested for driving without a license in March and turned over to immigration authorities because he wasn’t in the United States legally. Sheriff office documents show nearly a dozen others who claimed to work at Chateau Elan were not United States citizens when they were arrested from 2000 to 2010.

“I liked working at Chateau Elan,” said Barbara Schindler. The 14-year employee was terminated in January 2009. She believes she was replaced with cheaper illegal labor.

“It’s wrong. It’s hard to find work,” said Schindler.

Chateau Elan management would not agree to an on-camera interview.

In a statement sent to CBS Atlanta, the resort’s president and CEO Henk Evers wrote: “We would not dishonor its [Chateau Elan's] reputation through the employment of people who do not have the legal right to work within our country.” The statement goes on to say, “your call prompted us to re-evaluate our affiliation with HS Solutions Inc., the outside organization that provides non-guest facing services to Chateau Elan that you mentioned in your phone call to Doug Rollins, Chateau Elan’s vice president of sales and marketing. Effective immediately, we have terminated our contract for outside employment services with HSS.”

Did Chateau Elan break the law? A spokesperson for the resort said it was up to HS Solutions to verify the legal status of each applicant. However, if Chateau Elan management knew illegal immigrants worked there and did nothing about it, they would be breaking the law.http://www.cbsatlanta.com/news/23822534/detail.html

When the court has found you to be indigent and appoints counsel, after sentencing do you have to pay.?

07 Jun

A friend of mine was indicted on a possession charge in the state of Texas. The court granted that she could not afford counsel, and appointed her legal counsel. Never was she told she would be held accountable for the attorneys fees nor any portion of the expense of representation.

She chose to fight the charge against her; needless to say with the counsel she had for representation her efforts were less than fruitful as the attorney did no more than stand by while she was sentenced. Six months after the Final Sentencing was signed and filed she recieved a letter from the court billing her $1,800. for the attorneys fee which she would be allowed to make monthly payments. Also she was instructed to pay the court cost in monthly payments to the County Sheriff’s Department instead of the Court Clerk. I have spent some time looking at the statues, I can not find where the court after the sentencing would bill for representation nor direct court cost to a Sheriff’s Dept.

after succesfully completing the Sheriffs academy, what are the chances of getting hired by a department?

07 Jun

I’m attending the sheriffs academy shortly (self-sponsered), and if I succesfully complete the 6 months and receive the certificate, what are my chances of getting hired by a department?

I heard the departments are more willing to hire someone who already completed the academy opposed to an average joe because it saves them money.

What are my chances of getting hired at another police department after not hired b/c of drinking/driving?

04 Jun

I recently applied and went through the processes of Written/Oral/Background/Polygraph tests with the LA County Sheriffs Dept. I passed all the tests, or I thought, and was only awaiting my date to take my psychological exam and medical exam before entering the academy. I was sent a letter claiming that I would not be hired based on: Driving under the influence. This was something that I had only admitted to doing ever in my life during one of the oral interviews, it was noted as a minor concern and never brought up again. I have never been convicted of a DUI or been pulled over/questioned or anything regaurding anything about one. Only that I had admitted to doing so…..I was wondering what my chances are of getting hired with another dept right now if I chose to start re-applying as I know they will have access to my LASD file.

31 May

I am watching First Blood, (for the first time), and I don’t understand why he insisted on heading back into town. This is the basis of the whole movie? He pissed off the sheriff by walking back towards town?

I purchased a truck from my ex after the divorce and b4 his creditor filed a lawsuit, I am to go to court soon

27 May

I purchased it on April 1st. The creditor filed on April 3rd. I left the truck in front of my house while I was out of town for a month to deter burglars. While I was gone the sheriff seized my truck of which I have the title, tag, and registration in my name. THey didn’t check to see whose truck it was before they seized it. I have a bill of sale which is also registered on my registration. I have to go to court now to contest the seizure on Thursday. What are my chances of getting it back? My ex owed the Ace Hardware 2000 but they owed him 2000 for work he performed there. They beat him to the clerks office and filed before he did due to him being in jail. Please help! I thought about going to a cash for title place before court but a deputy said that would be illegal!!! HOw can getting a loan on my own truck illegal as compared to what they did!!! I suppose all I can do if the backwoods legal system of Bofunk, Alabama decides to award the creditor my truck is to appeal!
I bought it for 62.00 which I purchased with a money order…I can show bank records. However, he owed me 2009.00 for back child support that I paid for him our of my account in June of last year (2005) that he never paid me back. I have the Western Union receipt to prove it.
The decree says that my ex would assume all debts to this particular creditor. Also it says that I was given possession and use of the pickup and I agreed that I would not sell it, encumber it, or transfer title to it. However, it did not say that he couldn’t sell it to me.
The fact is…I bought the truck 3 days before the creditor even filed a lawsuit. Then the next month after winning the suit, the creditor had a seizure or whatever it is called put on it. This was done AFTER the sale to me on April 1st. If I sold a lawn mower before someone filed a suit and won….I wouldn’t be liable to get it back for the creditor….would I?
Also…there was no lien on the truck when I got the title.

What happens after a house is sold in a sheriff’s sale?

24 May

Short story is that we have the most awful neighbors. The entire neighborhood can’t stand them. Their house was sold for all costs the end of Aug. Problem is, they’re still here and it doesn’t seem like they’re moving quickly.. Just wondering if anyone knows of any reasons they aren’t out yet? Is there a time frame? They knew the house was going into foreclosure since 2007. Thanks for any info!
