If I wanted to be a Military Police-men – can I have a K9 partner over seas? I am signing up for infantry, but then after my 4 years active duty I want to be a Sheriffs K-9 Deputy, will it be possible?

You’d be best suited to join as an MP. Although re-enlisting for a second term gives you a LOT of leeway when it comes to what YOU want, you still have to build up your standing within your unit. You hit on the head though, the dog will be your “partner”. You will be trained to interact with that dog. Sadly, most of your time will be spent doing drug searches in the barracks though. Just FYI.

If your dream is to be a Marine, then go for it. However if you are doing it as kind of a stepping stone and your real dream is to be a sheriff’s deputy, becoming an infantryman or MP will not really give you a better chance.
There are certain skills you can learn in the Marines that may help you, like calm under fire and quick decisions but that can be picked up on the job. In some ways, being a Marine first can hinder you because of the huge differences between the two.
And one thing you have to remember: You can always quit as a cop if you don’t like it but the Marines own your a**.
Good Luck, stay safe.

Being a Marine MP will definitely improve your chances. Most local pigs wish they could be a Marine but keep in mind there are major requirements to becoming a Marine MP.
* You need a GT score of over 100
* Must be eligible for security clearance
* Must be 19 years old before completing the formal school
* Must be 5′5 at least
* Must be a US citizen
* Must have a valid states drivers license
* Your vision has to be good (color and sight)
* Possess clarity of speech (better talk like a phone operator)
* Better have never showed up to court for anything
90% on that list is not waiverable. So if you don’t meet those criteria, don’t bother.
