My husband is trying to get into the Riverside County Sheriffs Dept but he did not pass the preliminary test when he was asked if he had ever done illegal drugs (cocaine and weed). Will he ever be accepted? how long after the last time he used do they consider his application? what are his chances?
He was never arrested or convicted….there is no record of it. except that he would have to be truthful in a poligraph.
How long do you have to wait to be accepted by the sheriffs department if you’ve had history of drug use?

Its not that they would never accept him if it was just weed, but cocaine changes everythin in law enforcement standered. Even the FBI will accept you after a year from taking marijuana, but cocaine is different, it usually reduces the chances to less then 5% but that is up to the municipal, some departments may allow it after a number of year(s) but my father also says most municipals wont allow it at all

Most departments will disqualify for cocaine usage. Some won’t if it was experimental and a long time ago. Smaller rural departments tend to be a bit more forgiving.
BTW: not that I think he’s going to but I wanted to point out that lying is an automatic disqualifier everywhere. It’s better just to tell the truth and let the chips fall where they may.
